JAPURA KIDNEY HOSPITAL PROJECT 2022-2023

The largest nephrology hospital in South Asia was declared open on 11 June 2021, as a donation from the Chinese government. It has 201 beds, including 100 in the hemodialysis unit. While the hospital has the most state-of-the-art facilities, there are some critical improvements that has proven beyond the country’s means at present. One such urgent facility identified by hospital authorities was the need to establish oxygen outlets for treating ‘critical’ kidney patients at the hospital.

As JAAI celebrates 15 years of community service this year, we have embarked on another noble project, which is to raise funds to support the installation of 18 oxygen outlets in the Hemo-dialysis unit at the National Nephrology Hospital, Polonnaruwa. As mentioned above CKD is wreaking havoc in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka and has had a severe impact on thousands of innocent farming communities.

The cost of the project is estimated to be around Five Million SL Rupees (LKR 5.0 million) and has been planned to be completed in two stages. Thanks to our members and well-wishers, we have managed to raise sufficient funds for both stages of the project. Once completed, this project is expected to save thousands of lives at critical times during their treatment for many years to come.
